Tools for the Job

As most people in the Seattle area are working from home due to the recent Coronavirus pandemic, it will be interesting to see how this change will be adopted. Work teams will need to maintain focus so they can continue meeting deadlines. It will also be a learning process for companies that do not have a solution. I’ve worked remotely for years, and here are some of the best tools that helped me along the way:

  • Smartsheet = Multiple people can work on the same spreadsheet simultaneously
  • Google Docs = Similar to smartsheet, but also includes documents, charts, and presentations
  • Dropbox = Share files and folders with teammates
  • Onedrive = Same as Dropbox – from Microsoft
  • Zoom.us = Video conferencing and screen sharing
  • Skype = Virtual phone number, video conferencing, screen sharing, and many others – also from Microsoft
  • JIRA / Confluence = Agile planning, bug tracking, customer feedback, and central team collaboration
  • LogMeIn Central = Central server and computer management that can be used to help customers or team members
  • Slack = Centralized team text chat, and screen/document sharing

There are a lot more of these services and these are just a few (to start). If you have a favorite, please share. It may actually help someone. 😉 –Mike
